About the Pastor
Pastor Ricky T. Guyton
Ricky Guyton has served as pastor at Body of Christ since December 1989. He is a graduate of Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. He received his call to the ministry at age 18 and was licensed to preach the Gospel in 1985 at Metropolitan M. B. Church in Chicago Illinois. In July 1986, Ricky Guyton received his first invitation to pastor a newly organized church however he referred this opportunity to another. A second invitation was extended in December 1989 by a group desiring to organize a new congregation. This invitation was accepted and that new congregation took on the name of Body of Christ M. B. Church.
The focus of Pastor Guyton's ministry is a verse by verse exposition of the bible with the objective of sharing biblical principles for daily living. His style of ministry has been described as "didactic expository teaching". His pastoral style is described as "servant-shepherding".
Pastor Guyton serves as 1st Vice Moderator of the Northwood River District Association, President of the Illinois State Congress of Christian Education, Recording Secretary of the Illinois Missionary Baptist State Convention, Bible Teacher for the Older Boys' & Girls' Conference.
Pastor Guyton's passions are his family, youth ministry, building strong marriages among Christians, bowling and science fiction. In his efforts to minister to married and engaged couples, Pastor Guyton has developed a 9-session curriculum entitled "Biblical Principles for Marriage". Pastor Guyton is a strong advocate for educational excellence and is the sponsor of BOC's Academic Achievement Awards program, which pays grade school and high school students for every "A" received on their report cards.
